Situated near the Teesta Barrage, stands as a vital sanctuary for avian life, hosting a diverse array of species. This thriving ecosystem plays a crucial role in the annual migration patterns of birds, making it a significant habitat for both resident and migratory species. The wetlands boast a rich and diverse habitat, comprising shallow water bodies, reed beds, mudflats and lagoons with abundant aquatic vegetation which not only serves as a source of food for herbivorous birds but also as a nesting site for various avian species.

The wetlands host an impressive variety of migratory birds such as Bar-headed Geese, Tufted Ducks, Northern Pintails, Northern Shovelers, Mallards, Greenshanks, Sandpipers, Pochards, a variety of lapwings with Northern Lapwing being the main attraction and some raptors such as Eastern Imperial Eagle, Booted Eagle, Osprey, etc.
